Nuclear Medicine Exam
Ontario Diagnostic Centres(ODC) provide Nuclear Medicine services in Mississauga, Etobicoke and Oakville. Nuclear Medicine scanning uses a small amount of radiopharmaceutical which emits radiation to demonstrate structures and functions inside your body. The liver, bones and heart are evaluated for particular conditions using this technique. A small dose of radiopharmaceutical is injected. There is a waiting period of approximately 1.5 – 2.5 hours between the time of your injection and the time of your scan depending on the type of test and what it is for. Nuclear scans involve a special camera that detects radiation. During most nuclear scanning tests, you lie still on a scanning table while the camera moves over your body to create pictures. Most scans take 20 to 45 minutes. Nuclear scans can help doctors diagnose many conditions and are used to assess blood flow to the heart.
These are done by appointment only and may require some preparation.
